Bronwen Gwillim

Bronwen Gwillim

Bronwen Gwillim makes statement, one-off pieces of wearable art jewellery from waste plastic.

Bronwen collects, reuses and upcycles beach plastic from the beaches where she lives on the Pembrokeshire coast. She then cuts, shapes and forms it by hand and combines with industrial waste plastic, recycled silver and resins (into which she recycles her own waste plastic dust.).

Her aim is to keep her carbon footprint low, using mostly reclaimed materials and hand tools and through this process very little is thrown away. Bronwen imbues these soulless materials with a natural, weather-worn character by working their surfaces till their colours soften and they feel natural in the hand. She uses shapes and textures inspired by the sea and her walks on the foreshore at the bottom of her garden. “Celebrating women who are playful, expressive and thoughtful; my jewellery is fuelled by a delight in the natural world and a desire to protect it.”
