This is a handmade, wheel-thrown yunomi by Nicholas Dover, crafted from coarse stoneware and finished with a celadon glaze.
Description
Each piece is unique, thrown off the hump. The rich colours in the glaze come from the iron reacting in the charcoal saggar during the reduction firing process.
This traditional Japanese tea cup is perfect not only for tea but also for pour-over coffee or espresso with steamed milk.
Fired to cone 8 in a charcoal reduction saggar, it’s then fired again to cone 6 in oxidation. Nicholas’s maker’s mark is brushed onto the base in black underglaze after the foot ring is carefully turned by hand.
